The United Nations human rights chief, Prince Zeid bin Ra’ad Zeid al-Hussein, just showed how divided we really are. While Trump is trying to bring everyone together, the UN is making it clear that that is not what they are interested in. He insulted both Donald Trump and Nigel Farage, the leader of Brexit. He compared their rhetoric to ISIS.
“2016 has been a disastrous year for human rights across the globe. If the growing erosion of the carefully constructed system of human rights and rule of law continues to gather momentum, ultimately everyone will suffer,” he said.
“In some parts of Europe, and in the United States, anti-foreigner rhetoric full of unbridled vitriol and hatred, is proliferating to a frightening degree, and is increasingly unchallenged,” he said. This is the normal liberal rhetoric of pretending to not understand the difference between legal immigration and illegal immigration. Trump is not anti-foreigner.
He went on to compare Trump’s ‘propaganda’ with ISIS. The “mode of communication, its use of half-truths and oversimplification, the propaganda of [ISIS] uses tactics similar to those of the populists. And both sides of this equation benefit from each other – indeed would not expand in influence without each others’ actions,” he said.
Despite the fact that he just compared Trump to ISIS, he said, “make no mistake, I certainly do not equate the actions of nationalist demagogues with those of Daesh, which are monstrous, sickening; Daesh must be brought to justice”.
